10. Say Anything: Say Anything
Until this year Say Anything was always just a mediocre, angry emo band singing about bad break-ups and crappy jobs. But Max Bemis of Say Anything took it one step further.
Included in his angry rants, Bemis now includes his anti-anti-Semitism. Confusing? Yes.
Bemis, an outspoken man of the Jewish faith sings about hating everyone who hates his people, while at the same time saying “he’s down with JC.”
Now this is not a religious album by any means, but an eclectic album of handclaps, auto-tune and hate, in the nicest way possible, of course.
The self-titled album is a new step compared to the last album featuring funnier, less serious songs. Perhaps the greatest strength of this album is “Crush’d,” the first ever love song written by Say Anything.
Not only does the sound of the album feel different, but also the artwork is amusing in itself, featuring a boy dressed up as a superhero, called Say Anything Boy. The combination of lyrics, look and overall feel of this album deserves its spot in the top 10 of this year as the wild-card pick.
